When you shop for furniture, consider its visual weight. This concept refers to the perceived heaviness of an object based on size, color and design. Pick out pieces that have a lightweight appearance, as heavier ones will seem to constrict a space.
Unused floor space under the stairs? Get creative! We’ve seen everything from chairs and reading lights, customized bookshelves, foldout desks, and TVs added to this space. Of course, a much more common (but much less fun) use for this space is basic storage.
The DIY coffee table is made from a broken clock face transformed into a live edge table with hair pin legs. A white ship lap accent wall creates a white on white texture display with the unbleached macrame fiber art. A large leather sectional is decorated with a mix of patterned pillows and throw blankets. Wicker baskets provide decorative storage.
To maximize the floor space, tuck your bed up against a wall or corner. The effect will create a sleep area that feels cozier. If it feels too much like a college dorm? Add a two headboard corner system to create a finished, designer look to a bedroom.
